{Video!} Summer Pantry Essentials
The change of seasons prompts changes in our wardrobe and routine. But does it do the same for our food choices? In summer, I naturally wake earlier and go to sleep later. And especially since moving to Madrid, where it's 40C/104F as I write this post, I've found myself having an adverse reaction to wearing anything more than dresses, shorts, or thin, flowy pants. And for meals, I'm not only drawn to lighter and cooler foods, but also the simplest of cooking techniques.
I'll sometimes hear from others they're bored with the same 4-5 meals they have on repeat each week. But guys, we have four seasons each year to mix things up! Though it's really five, since both produce and weather vary significantly from early to late summer .
In recent years, seasonal eating has become a loaded phrase connected with the trendy local food movement. But in its simplest form, seasonal eating is about slowing down to check in with our bodies and environment and adjust what we eat and how we cook, accordingly.
In today's video, I share some of my favorite summer pantry essentials, explain why they work so well in the warm months, and ideas for incorporating them into summer meals. I've placed links to all recipes I mention in the video below.
Whether you're a seasoned seasonal eater or looking for a few tips for adopting a more conscientious eating style, I hope this video gives you inspiration to eat well this summer!
